Following a successful first season last year in the ‘All England Theatre Festival’ Nantwich Players Studio have returned to the circuit once again for 2020. This time, the Studio team entered ‘Girl in the Machine’ by award winning writer Stef Smith. A 2 hand, dystopian drama exploring our potential digital future, and what it might mean for 'life' as we know it. 

On March 7 th the team made their way up to the ‘Durham and Sunderland One Act Festival’ and scooped the top prize in the festival the ‘Champions Trophy’ along with the award for Best Actress which was awarded to Bethany Froud for her portrayal of ‘Polly’.

The Following weekend the team took part in the ‘Cheshire Drama Festival’ at the wonderful MADS theatre in Macclesfield. This was the qualifying round to progress on to
the next stage of the competition in the ‘All England Theatre Festival’

After a full weekend of extremely enjoyable, but tough Competition from MADS, Davenham, Neston Players, Ashton Hayes, D.T.A.T, Electric Fables, and of course Nantwich Players second entry ‘Cliffs Edge’ the winners were announced at the awards ceremony on Sunday 15 th March.

Awards were presented by the Mayor of Macclesfield and the Adjudicator Jennifer Scott-Reid, and were as follows:

Best Actress - Bethany Froud - Polly - Girl in the Machine – Nantwich Players
Best Actor - Colin Johnston - Owen – Girl in the Machine – Nantwich Players
Best Director - Jeremy AcklamGirl in the Machine – Nantwich Players
Best original play - Jack Morrison - From the Ashes - MADS
Most Promising Youth Performer Emily Pinches - Definition Not Found - Davenham
The Adjudicator’s Award - Duncan Munro - Dream a Little Dream – MADS
Best Production - Nantwich PlayersGirl in the Machine – Nantwich Players
AETF Trophy - Nantwich Players - Girl in the Machine - Nantwich Players

The Nantwich Players will now go forward to represent Cheshire in the semi-final of the All England Theatre Festival.

A very successful start to the season, scooping no less than 7 awards!
