It's (a Bit) Tricky Being the Origin of the World
Fri 16 December 2022 - Sun 18 December 2022
by Tiphaine Gentilleau & Les Filles de Simone Translated by Charlie Gobbett
Chloé discovers she is pregnant. That’s good, that’s what she wanted, what they wanted. So why does it feel so right and yet all wrong, and what happens when baby arrives?
In a series of monologues and dialogues, Chloe interacts with the people in her life, including Simone, her feminist conscience in the person of Simone de Beauvoir, experiencing the fears, delights, anger, ecstasy and mourning of a new mother.
This play is an absorbing and at times funny and hard-hitting insight into the nature of maternity and how it affects (and invades) a woman’s body and mind. It is an exposŽ of the pressure on women from all quarters and the incomprehension of others, women as well as men, when maternity becomes reality.
This is the story of a journey into motherhood. The journey of a young woman. Of several, in fact. But perhaps they are all wrapped up in one? An absorbing, funny and hard-hitting insight into what it means to become a mum.
