CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN ....
Eight members of Nantwich Players are celebrating after a weekend in which they walked and climbed 30 miles up all 15 Welsh mountains over 3000 feet. Thanks to their spirit and energy more than £5,000 was raised for the Nantwich Theatre Project.

The team undertook training walks for 5 months in preparation for the event and three members had to overcome a severe fear of heights in order to complete the route.  This included the infamous Crib Goch ridge, a knife-edged climb with an almost sheer drop of several hundred metres.

Team members were
Robert Earl, Charlie Gobbett, Neil Hodges, Katy Hooper, Tony Hoy, Angela Lockley, Gareth Roberts and Stuart Taylor and the Back-up Crew were Clare Hoy and Charlotte Walker.

Sponsors towards the target total of £3000 included
theatre-goers, general public, family and friends and Crewe-based company Morning Foods Ltd (Mornflake).

The expedition’s organizer and leader Charlie Gobbett is very proud of their achievement. Each climber overcame problems, ranging from an attack by a dog to shoes which fell apart before the end of the climb.
This was a fantastic experience.  The team spirit and camaraderie that we developed in the team is a something we shall never lose. And the generosity of our sponsors is reflected in the grant total.

The Nantwich Theatre Project is raising funds to create the Community Arts Venue and to improve the seating and facilities in the Players Theatre.

Members’ other fund-raising projects include £1000 raised by a special 3-night show “Memory Lane” in July and by adding an extra play into next season’s productions. There will be seven plays at the Players Love Lane premises between September and July.  See www.nantwichplayers.com/plays

  • The Buy-a-Brick scheme has brought in over £1700 so far.

  • We stage an extra performance for every play for the Theatre Project Fund.

  • Richard Wilson OBE has lent his support to the fund-raising campaign. In a recent letter he said: "“Anything which brings the art of drama to more people is to be encouraged and I am very happy to support the Nantwich Theatre Project. I trust the Players will be successful in raising funds to create the Community Arts Centre and enlarging their auditorium.”

  • All visitors to the Theatre sign the Supporters Statement to submit with our funding applications which are being prepared now.
